Passionate about nature and wilderness, Jessica is frequently found in the less traveled areas of our National Parks, the forests of North Idaho, and other wilderness areas. Her work is driven by her attraction to the natural world and the ways that land anchors human culture, defining our history and experiences. Jessica’s background in the field of American Studies serves her art career, providing the foundation for her interest in understanding landscape and our outdoor heritage.

Day 1: A few brief exercises will get us on the same page with water control, values, and color. Then we'll build a painting that will lay some groundwork for Day 2 topics. We'll spend the last part of the day talking about choosing appropriate subjects and how to problem solve an approach that will work, including composition considerations and adjusting your reference.

Day 2: We’ll focus on one painting with a step by step demo that includes breaks for time to paint. During the breaks, Jessica will be available for individual questions and feedback. We’ll discuss how to decide when your painting is finished, and if there is time, we will end with a brief group critique.
